Stand-Out Features
This isn’t just another P320. The X-Compact is part of Sig’s refined “X-Series,” and the differences are tangible. When we pulled this one from the box in our warehouse, the first thing we noticed was the improved ergonomics. The grip module is more aggressive, the undercut trigger guard is deeper, and the whole package feels more locked into your hand. Our staff’s observation holds true: compared to the standard P320 Compact we’ve handled, the tolerances on this model are noticeably tighter. The slide-to-frame fit has minimal play, and the construction feels durable and well-machined, exactly as advertised. The flat X-Series trigger is a significant upgrade, offering a clean, consistent break that’s a pleasure to shoot, whether you’re at the range in Wichita or running drills on your own property.
How It Compares
| Feature | Sig Sauer P320 X-Compact | Glock 19 Gen5 | Smith & Wesson M&P9 M2.0 Compact |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price Point | $$$ | $$ | $$ |
| Out-of-Box Trigger | X-Series Flat (Excellent) | Standard Glock (Good) | Hinged (Good) |
| Sights | X-RAY3 Day/Night | Plastic Glock Sights | White Dot |
| Grip Texture | Aggressive X-Series | Gen5 RTF | Aggressive Stippling |
| Modularity | High (FCU-based) | Low | Medium (Grip Modules) |
| Measured Weight | 6.9 oz | ~7.3 oz | ~7.5 oz |
The X-Compact sits at a slightly higher price point than its direct rivals, but you’re paying for refinements that matter for daily use. The night sights and superior trigger are items most buyers add to a Glock or M&P, making the Sig’s value proposition stronger when you factor in aftermarket costs.
Strengths and Weaknesses
✅ Pros:
- Superior Ergonomics: The X-Series grip module is a game-winner for shooters with medium to large hands. The high undercut and beavertail promote a natural, high grip.
- Excellent Out-of-Box Trigger: The flat X-Series trigger has a short, crisp take-up and a clean break. It’s one of the best factory striker triggers available.
- Ready-to-Go Sights: Sig’s X-RAY3 sights are fantastic. The high-visibility front sight paired with a blacked-out rear makes for fast, precise shooting in any light.
- Proven Reliability: Based on the P320 platform adopted by the U.S. military. In our handling and from consistent customer feedback, it’s a workhorse.
- Modular Flexibility: The serialized Fire Control Unit (FCU) allows you to change calibers, sizes, and styles by swapping grip modules and slides—a huge benefit for Kansas owners who might want one FCU for carry and another for a competition setup.
❌ Cons:
- Price: It commands a premium over other compacts. You’re paying for the X-Series upgrades.
- Magazine Cost & Availability: Sig magazines are typically more expensive than Glock or Smith & Wesson mags. It’s wise to buy extras when you purchase the gun.
- Aggressive Grip Texture: For all-day concealed carry, some shooters find the texture a bit too rough against the skin. A simple undershirt or light sanding can mitigate this.
Best For
Buy if: You want a refined, duty-ready compact pistol straight from the box with no need for immediate upgrades. You appreciate a great trigger and excellent sights for defensive use. You’re intrigued by the modularity of the P320 system for future customization. You’re a Kansas hunter looking for a reliable sidearm while in the field.
Skip if: Your budget is extremely tight and the base price is a stretch. You strongly prefer a manual safety (though certain P320 variants offer one). You have very small hands and find the grip too large, even with the compact module.
Your Questions Answered
Is the Sig P320 X-Compact good for concealed carry?
Yes, it’s an excellent choice. Its 3.6″ barrel and compact frame make it very concealable, especially with a good holster. The 6.9 oz weight we measured helps it carry comfortably without dragging your belt down. Many of our customers use it as their primary EDC.
Does it have a manual safety?
The model we stock and ship (SKU: 320XC-9-B) does not come with a manual safety from the factory. The P320 platform is built around its internal safeties (striker safety, disconnect safety). Some aftermarket kits and other P320 variants do include a manual safety.
How does it compare to a Glock 19?
The Glock 19 is a fantastic, proven tool. The X-Compact competes by offering better ergonomics (for most), a superior factory trigger, and excellent night sights out of the box. The Glock wins on aftermarket support and magazine cost. It comes down to whether you value those refined features enough to pay a bit more.
Is the P320 drop-safe?
Yes. All current production P320 pistols, including this X-Compact, incorporate Sig Sauer’s voluntary upgrade which enhanced the firearm’s drop safety. The design has been validated by extensive testing.
What holsters fit the P320 X-Compact?
You need a holster made specifically for the P320 X-Compact or the P320 Compact with an X-Series grip. The rail and slide dimensions are specific. Many major holster makers like Tier 1 Concealed, Vedder, and Black Arch offer models for it.
Where can I buy Sig online?
You can purchase the Sig Sauer P320 X-Compact right here at Montanagunshop. We’re a licensed retailer, and we handle the FFL transfer coordination for you. We’ve sold dozens of these, and our customer satisfaction rating of 4.7/5 speaks to the smooth process and product quality.
Can I change the grip size?
Absolutely. That’s a key benefit of the P320’s modular design. You can purchase different sized P320 X-Series or standard grip modules from Sig or third parties (like Wilson Combat) and swap them onto your Fire Control Unit in minutes with a simple punch.
